Fig Propagation

Figs are easy to propagate.  While they can be propagated any time, over winter is easiest since you can use the limbs when pruning.  Take a limb and select a section about 12-15 inches long.  If it is the end piece, just cut off the bottom at a 90 degree angle.  Make sure you include a bud and scrape off about 2-3" of bark at the cut off end.  Dip the scraped end in a root toner if desired and insert in the ground up to the bark. Make sure this ground stays moist.  If the piece you are using is not the end piece, follow the same procedure, however cut the end at a 45 degree angle just above a bud. You should see new growth in the spring.
