Hibiscus How to winterize hibiscus in pots? Bring the containerized hibiscus indoors before frost. Don't water -- allow the soil to go dry. The result will be that all the leaves will fall off the plant. This is good because now the plant has gone dormant. Place the plant in an area that is around 40 to 45 degrees. Check on the soil moisture about every two weeks and if the soil is dry two to three inches down in the pot, add a small amount of water. This will keep the stems from shriveling but not encourage new growth. Reference(s): |
