When and how can I prune my Pyracantha (Firethorn)?

The best time to prune is June-July.  Flowers are produced on wood from past season; pruning while dormant will reduce flowers.  Make pruning cuts well below diseased wood if there is fire blight; disinfect shears between cuts.
