Planting Time

You should wait until after all danger of frost has past to plant warm weather crops such as tomatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupes, beans, potatoes, peppers, egg plants, okra,  etc.  The average last frost is around April 15th in this area.  You might want to divide up your planting and plant half around the first of May and then the other half in mid-May.  Since the ground is still very cold in mid April, these warm weather vegetables will not do very well until the ground warms up.

Some locals will try a planting, especially tomatoes in mid April just to get a jump on others.

Cool weather crops such as Cauliflower, Broccoli, Collards and Brussels Sprouts can be transplanted as soon as the ground can be worked up in February or March.
