Voles

Moles and voles are common pests in the yard and in the garden and the two are often confused.  Basically, a mole lives underground all it's life and is a carnivore, eating grubs (a good thing) and earthworms (bad thing).  The vole is a herbivore and often uses the tunnels of the mole to find food and to move around.  The food they eat is typically the roots and bulbs of home garden plants.  They have been known to build tunnels under the mulch and get to a tree and plant roots that way.

There are traps and poisons at your local feed and seed stores that can be used to control these pests.  Of course, caution must be used when children and pets are present.
