Soil Solutions (Turf Love and New for 2026…Garden Love)
For more than 20 years, our Master Gardeners have helped homeowners improve lawn density and appearance through our Turf Love program, using science-based, environmentally responsible practices.
Turf Love will continue to offer this same trusted lawn support. In addition, we are expanding our focus to include soil health in landscapes and garden beds through a new program, Garden Love.
Garden Love is a home visitation program in which Master Gardeners collect soil samples from garden beds and landscapes and send them to the Virginia Tech Soil Testing Laboratory. Once they receive the results, Master Gardeners meet with homeowners to explain the findings and discuss practical ways to improve the soil. Recommendations may include using lime, nutrients, compost, and proper irrigation practices.
As Master Gardeners, we know that soil is the foundation of successful lawns, gardens, and landscapes. Together, Turf Love and Garden Love form the Soil Solutions initiative, helping homeowners create healthier, more sustainable outdoor spaces.
A training class for interested Master Gardeners will be offered in March, followed by a public application period.
