Landscape Love Visit Request

Free Home Garden Consultations

Landscape Love is a free home garden consultation program offered during the spring and summer by the James City County Williamsburg Master Gardener Association. The program helps homeowners in the Middle Peninsula region (Williamsburg, James City, New Kent, Charles City, and Upper York Counties) get reliable gardening advice from trained volunteers certified through Virginia Cooperative Extension.

Our goal is simple: help you understand your garden and grow healthier plants using research-based gardening practices. A key principle of successful gardening is matching the right plant to the right location—considering sunlight, soil, moisture, and local climate. We can help with that!

What Happens During a Landscape Love Visit

When you request a Landscape Love consultation, a team of two to three Master Gardener volunteers will visit your property and walk through your garden with you. The visit typically takes about an hour. During the visit, they will:

  • Listen to your gardening questions and concerns
  • Help identify plants in your landscape
  • Look at plant health problems or growing conditions
  • Suggest plants that may work better for your site
  • Share simple, practical gardening tips

Soil Tests

Healthy soil is the foundation of a thriving garden. The Master Gardener team will explain why soil health matters and show you how to use the Virginia Tech soil testing kits, which will be available during the visit. They will walk you through the instructions for collecting a proper soil sample and sending it to the Virginia Tech Soil Testing Laboratory for analysis.
