Master Gardener Pruning Clinics
This free home visitation program provides workshops and pruning lessons for individuals and small neighborhood groups. The program promotes sustainable landscapes that improve the environment. During clinics, 2-4 Master Gardeners provide hands-on instruction in maintaining shrubs and small trees.
Typically, the clinic is held on the homeowner’s property with personalized instruction from Master Gardeners guiding the homeowner. Visits are 60 – 90 minutes and are scheduled for late winter and early spring, with a limited number of visits made available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A general public Pruning Clinic session is usually held in mid-January to provide information about pruning, general pruning techniques and practices, and resource material. Available space is often limited.

An updated Pruning Guide Booklet will be available for download in late January 2025.
2025 Pruning Clinic Schedule
December 1, 2024, the application window for the 2025 Pruning Clinics will open. To sign up for a visit from Master Gardeners, please fill out the Application Request form on this page starting on 1 Dec. Once our home visit capacity is met, the application window will close. Be sure to sign up early so as not to miss out.
January 28, 2025, home and community Pruning Clinic visits will start. Based on the number of accepted applications, visits will occur from 28 January through early March. Visits typically last between 60-90 minutes.

January 18, 2025, General Public Pruning Clinic session. The Williamsburg Botanical Gardens (WBG) will sponsor a separate public pruning instructional event as part of their monthly Learn and Grow Program.
