Ladybug Larvae on Fennel

The garden is located by the patio dining area of the Jamestown Settlement Café and has frequent visitors who are eating their meals. The kitchen staff enjoy using the fresh herbs for their recipes. The visitors may enjoy the view as well as see many native plants that grow well in the area. There are many blooming plants throughout the season to enjoy.

A Partnership with Jamestown Settlement that Works Well

The Jamestown Settlement staff support the garden with materials such as plants, mulch and soil. The JCCW Master Gardeners have designed the garden layout as well as maintain the garden. This ensures a well-maintained garden for a highly visible area as well as serving as an educational opportunity for the public to see what they can do in their own garden with herbs and native plants.

The partnership between the JCCW Master Gardeners and the Jamestown Settlement staff has worked very well. It allows the master gardeners to share their knowledge of plants and horticulture with a staff who want to provide an educational opportunity for their visitors to see native plants.

Jamestown Cafe Garden PlotAn Educational Opportunity with Native Plants

A new native plant bed was installed in 2023 by the entrance to the museum and is maintained by the JCCW Master Gardeners. This is an opportunity for the public to see an all-native planting of shrubs as well as other plants that can be used as foundation plantings. The hope is that we can show that native plants can be beautiful and need less maintenance. This area is a high traffic area since it is at the entrance and therefore a great opportunity to showcase native plants.
